Puxi Grade 5: Amazing Spelling Bee
The fifth grade Spelling Bee ended successfully this week.
A few weeks ago, we were told there was going to be a spelling bee. Students prepared for it over the weekend by reviewing their vocabulary words and practicing with others. We were very excited to be able to participate in the first Spelling Bee. It did not matter if we failed the first round—we just wanted to try our best. When it was finally time for the competition to start, we were each given a piece of paper to write the words on. Our teacher then read us each word out loud with its part of speech and used it in a sentence. Then, the teacher repeated the word one more time. The first round had 3 categories, each getting progressively difficult.
After an extra week of preparation, some contestants—including me—were ready for the second round. This time, it was a little different. It was like the real international competitions where the contestants stood up and, after the teacher gave us the information, had to say the word, spell it out, and repeat the word again. We slowly competed one by one. A week later, four H level students and six S and S+ students went to the final round. After a tough competition, 5(6) Letitia won the first prize for H level, while 5(6) Daniel Park was the S and S+ level champion.
The Spelling Bee was a great way to help students learn English and improve their vocabulary. Almost everyone learnt a lot these few weeks, and we hope we can participate in another competition sometime soon!
