Grade 11 Company Visit: The Educational Collaboration Agreement Between SHSID and Ericsson Shanghai R&D Center

March 21, 2019

On the afternoon of May 20, a group of juniors visited Ericsson, the world’s largest networking and telecommunications company. Founded in 1876 in Sweden’s capital Stockholm, Ericsson has now expanded to be a multinational company, with a large office here in Shanghai. Today, we had the opportunity to visit an Ericsson office located on Tian Shan Road.

Our tour around Ericsson’s office began with a sharing session from one of Ericsson’s department leaders—an SHS alumnus. He told us that Ericsson’s mission is to expand the 5G network, to increase technological mobility for everyone in society, and to make an impact on the technological world. Following up this sharing session were the demo sessions and “Girls in ICT” session.

Boys attended the demo sessions, which included a network assisted alert and reports in smart transportation, 5G auto driving and an unmanned boat, VR cloud rendering, application based onIOT Technology, and advertisement live replacement. Through such demos, students were able to truly perceive the wide reach and great potential of 5G, which Ericsson advocates.

Meanwhile, girls engaged themselves within the “Girls in ICT” session. Designed to empower young women to join the technology industry—an industry that is still largely dominated by men—the session encouraged girls to innovate and present products to target a female audience. From makeup and skincare to health and safety, the products devised by all the girls were creative and applicable.

Overall, the company visit to Ericsson was very fruitful. Students reached insightful conclusions about the company and the potentials of technology and innovation. Furthermore, Ericsson’s connections to SHSID did not stop there.

In the afternoon of March 21st, on the second floor of our campus’s Yifu Building, representatives from Ericsson’s Shanghai R&D Center, as well as Principle Ma, Principle Assistant Zhang, and Director Liu from SHSID, participated in the ceremony to sign the educational collaboration agreement. During the ceremony, Ericsson proposed welcoming SHSID students to their offices and to experiment with visiting practice, providing communication, and electronic technology, among other vocational education and general information sessions. Ericsson strives to use such projects to spread internships and relevant educational activities. In conclusion, this educational contract will give both SHSID and Ericsson a win-win situation, and we look forward to witnessing its future developments.
