March 19, 2019

On March 16-17, the annual China Thinks Big (CTB) final competition was held at Shanghai Tech University. 12 SHSID teams made it into this year’s final competition. After two days of rigorous events, such as the project fair, the elevator pitch, Q&A session, and case analysis, one team was awarded the Grand Award runner up; two teams were awarded first prize; one team won second prize, and another team won third prize. Congratulations!

CTB is a project research competition designed for high school students and is sponsored by top universities in the U.S. and China, such as Harvard, Yale, MIT, Cornell, NYU, Tsinghua, Peking, Fudan, Shanghai Jiaotong, Renmin University of China, etc. The professors from these top universities raised around 100 questions, covering 20 academic fields, such as the environment, education, economics, psychology, literature, applied math, sciences and public health. Students are tasked with creating a specific research question out of the 20 academic areas and providing a solution to the question. Furthermore, students have to collect data and verify the effectiveness of their solutions. The purpose of CTB is to help students learn how to solve real life problems. Big dreams start with small steps!

CTB started in 2012. SHSID students have participated in this challenging competition continuously for the past 7 years. Each year, the students bring their creative ideas into practice as well as their observation, research, and presentation skills, which greatly strengthens and improves their academic and non-academic qualities.
