Grades 11-12: Safety Education
On the afternoon of February 20th, the juniors and seniors of SHSID welcomed Mr. Liu from Nine Eyes Safety Education to give a lecture on safety education and self-protection to the student body in the auditorium.
Mr. Liu’s discussion aimed to reveal the tangible dangers of the real world to Shanghai teenagers who have always lived in a relatively safe environment. After quickly discussing global safety concerns, Mr. Liu shared numerous examples of real-world dangers and self-protection methods.
The first issue touched on by Mr. Liu was kidnapping. Mr. Liu and his team distributed thick plastic bands, usually used under industrial settings, to the entire student body and told the students to handcuff each other. The students were not only excited to learn about potential safety issues but also about learning a method of self-protection first-hand through this activity.
Next, Mr. Liu called a student volunteer onto the stage and asked him what actions he would take when being robbed at gunpoint. After informing the audience about the various methods of self-protection one can employ during a robbery, Mr. Liu continued the lecture by teaching students to keep cautious in hotels globally as well as how to escape from human traffickers.
Overall, the safety lecture given by Mr. Liu during the second semester’s first CAS class proved to be a great success, with students gaining much-needed knowledge regarding self-protection.
