Grade 11: P&B—Waste Sorting
On Thursday morning, classes in Grade 11 held P&B on the topic of “waste sorting” in their homerooms. Each class, either under the lead of the homeroom teacher or under the lead of their student representatives, reviewed the Shanghai waste sorting guidebook as well as the waste sorting promotional videos. Afterwards, each class engaged in a discussion. The students were shocked to learn that Shanghai produces over 20,000 tons of urban waste per day, which can pile up a Jinmao tower in two weeks. After learning the four categories of waste sorting, "hazardous waste, recyclable waste, household food waste, and residual waste", many students agreed that waste sorting has become a prominent social issue and expressed that they are willing to help improve the environment, conserve energy, and recycle resources. The Eco-cup club, now run by Grade 11 students, recycles plastic bottles and caps separately on campus to reduce the hazards of plastic waste. There are several groups of students are currently working on a Junior Project with research topics related to waste sorting. This P&B class was only an introduction to stimulate students to discuss how to better carry out waste sorting in the Xianmian Building and to make the students aware of the importance of waste sorting. Followed by P&B education, each class will continue to make waste sorting proposals and plans in the follow-up classes. Let's work together to make the Xianmian Building and our campus better!
