Puxi Grade five: Spirit Week Activities

Have you ever thought about wearing pajamas to school, sitting with Santa Claus, on meeting Sadako in school hallway? These impossible missions were accomplished by Grade 5 this semester during our Spirit Week from Dec.22 to 31, not including the Christmas holiday. The Spirit Week included pajama day, Christmas day, crazy hat or hair day, head to toe one color day, and culture day. Based on these themes, students dressed up in different styles, promoting a spirit of happiness and enthusiasm. In the hallway, playground, and everywhere in between, students had a fresh look and welcomed the New Year’s coming.

Warm Up

Two weeks before the Spirit Week, all grade five co-homeroom teachers started a secret mission. On the preceding Fridays, these teachers, using their imagination and innovation, downed weird hair and eccentric hats or caps. The secret mission was hugely successful building up the students’ curiosity about Spirit Week. Meanwhile, all 5thgrade teachers voted for the themes of Spirit Week, some of whom put forward fresh ideas. Ms.Okeya, who is oversaw Spirit Week, added and mended some themes. When students got the notice about Spirit Week, they were eager to express their creativity and were looking forward to the coming of the event.

Climax

The Spirit Week began with Pajama Day. In the hallway, teachers with cute cartoon pajamas, respecting Daemon, Bunny Rabbit, Pikachu, cow, and Hello Kitty, went through the hallway and classrooms. Next came Christmas Day. Reindeers, rings, snowmen, Santa Claus and some other Christmas-related costumes were seen everywhere. Even during the Christmas holiday, students called their friends to discuss the next Spirit Day. On Crazy Hat or Hair Day, students and teachers with weird hats or hair appeared everywhere in Grade Five. In order to make an outstanding and distinctive costume, some kids put on fruit covers on their head, while others some inserted chopsticks into their hair. Every student did their best to build an unusual style. They showed us happiness was in daily life and innovation was around us. The next day was Head to Toe One Color Day. Students, with the help of their parents, looked for single color tops and bottoms in their closets. Some clever girls even had same color lace in their hair. The last day was Culture Day, which was aimed showing different cultures and different identities. Students wore traditional costumes, including early Republic of China suits, Japanese kimonos, Korean handbooks, etc. And they also shared the stories and histories behind the traditional costumes. Culture Day, in which students learned a lot about various cultures and learned much, pushed the whole Spirit Week to a new high.

Aftermath

Those who participated in Spirit Week could get a ticket for redeemable gift. Co-homeroom teachers organized the gift redemption during lunch break. Smiles appeared on the faces of students.

The Spirit Week not only brought students gifts, but also cultural knowledge, mutual understanding, and sharing. And it’s a satisfactory stage to show SHSID’s happy, harmonious, and innovative campus culture.
