The One and Only Art Festival for 7th and 8th grade

“We give you the Art Festival!” With a powerful start from the hosts, this year’s 7thand 8thgrade Art Festival unveiled its curtains on an exciting Thursday afternoon of December 20th. The performers and the audience were all looking forward to this moment, and many students rushed over with lunches in their hands just to get some extra practice before the big show.

We had many amazing shows this year, and we also had a few good surprises. Of course, following tradition, the orchestra group of 7th and 8th grade brought our first performance, and they did a good job catching everyone’s attention with classical music and songs from famous movies. Following that, there was some great dancing and singing.

One of the special shows this year was a musical performed by the Drama club of 8thgrade, revealing some other kinds of talents we students have. A variety of dances were presented, including peaceful and beautiful contemporary dances, cool hip-pop ones, and cute ones. A common theme was the dance, GangnamStlye, and they sure left boys and girls in the crowd rooting wildly. We also had some terrific piano shows that gave the extreme excitement a peaceful break. Unlike past years, where many students complained piano shows being boring, this time, we revealed future Beethovens or Bachs through intense and peaceful pieces of music. The two bands of this Art Festival, the Ipad Band and The Act, once again brought the atmosphere to a heating point with their cool and stunning music.

In addition to amazing student shows, we also had surprises from the teachers. For the very first time, teachers performed musical instruments and singing. Mr. T and Mr. Wright gave us an amazing show with the song they brought us, accompanied by the cello and guitar. I saw many students gasp in surprise especially because Mr. Wright shocked the whole crowd with his unique singing. Aside from this, the teachers also brought us some fun dancing choreographed by them. However, perhaps the most stunning show of this art festival was the last show. After the dance club brought us a fancy dance, many teachers of our two grades hopped out dancing Gangnam Style, and the crowd went wild seeing familiar teachers performing this popular dance. The big finale came, though, when Mr. Ni, the director of our grade and a usually serious person, joined in with the teachers. He was even dressed up like Psy! Almost everyone from the crowd was standing up then, and they were cheering and shouting like crazy. That was a great ending to our magnificent art festival.

We have to give thanks to many hard-working students and teachers backstage too. A group of ASB members and other helpers took on jobs such as lighting, moving heavy objects, controlling music, calling performers, and maintaining order. They were all crucial to the success of the Art Festival. In conclusion, volunteers and staff all put in a lot of effort in preparation, students and teacher gave fantastic performances, and the audience had a great time relaxing and enjoying the show.
