Puxi G3: Outdoor Class
Puxi G3: Outdoor Class
The outdoor class was probably the most interesting class during the whole semester to all the third graders. They went to Sunqiao Morden Agriculture Garden located in Pudong area. The weather was really helpful. It was not raining. Although it was very cold outside, everyone was very excited. They followed their homeroom teachers visiting green houses. The green house was very warm inside. Our English teacher explained to these students that was why the phrase of green house effect came from.. They saw different kinds of vegetable such as cucumbers, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and peppers. They learned that all these vegetable were organic. Most students liked cherry tomatoes the best because they looked tasty and juicy.
After leaving these green houses, they went to an orchard full of ripe oranges. Each student could pick 12 oranges. Orange trees were very tall in that orchard. It was somehow hard for a third grader to reach the top. They helped each other to climb on the branches to reach the tree top. They thought the harder the orange picked, the sweeter the fruit would taste. " It is the sweetest orange I have ever had." Some kids said. " I want to take them home and share them with my parents." They held a bag of oranges and left the orchard.
The third stop was a pumpkin garden. They saw a huge pumpkins. Some of them wondered if it was real or not. After touching it, they realized it was not a fake pumpkin. They took some pictures with it. There was a shop inside the garden. Some kids bought green plants. All these plants smelt very good. They liked them so much. " I would like to give it as a gift to my younger brother." One girl from 3(5) said. How thoughtful these kids are!
They visited a floral garden , a desert garden and a fungus garden. When they went to the fungus garden, some kids from 3(4) were so scared because they thought these plants were poisonous. Our Science teacher explained to them that this kind of fungus was called ganoderma which was a traditional Chinese medicine and was good to people. Later on these kids relaxed and laughed again.
This outdoor class was good experience to all the third graders. When they went back to school, all of the kids wanted to visit the garden again. Each of them wrote a Chinese essay about the outdoor class. They were looking forward to attending outdoor class next semester.
